Members of the Westminster Public Schools community are invited to share their thoughts about how to best use district resources and school buildings during a time of decreasing student enrollment.
A community meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 8 at the Daniel C. Vallez Family Education Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The center is located at 7125 Mariposa Street.
“No decisions have been made about any closures or the possible repurposing of any buildings,” said Superintendent Jeni Gotto. “We want the public to be involved in this very transparent process so people understand the issues facing the Board of Education.”
The Future Together Facilities Initiative (FTFI) has been meeting throughout the year to look at enrollment trends for the school district, along with census data and the predicted costs of refurbishing or repairing existing buildings. Dr. Gotto briefed the Board of Education about the FTFI process at last week’s Board of Education meeting adding, “We are exploring all options to find the right balance for our community. If changes are made in the future we are committed to supporting families every step of the way, but we are not at that stage.”
This community engagement session is structured as a drop-in event where participants can arrive at their convenience. Facilitators will engage attendees in conversations and informal discussions to capture their thoughts, ideas, worries, and aspirations for the future of our school district.

Why Community Feedback Matters
Our schools are more than buildings – they are cornerstones of our neighborhoods. Decisions about closing or repurposing schools deeply affect students, families, staff, and the broader community. By gathering diverse perspectives, we aim to:
- Understand the real-life impacts these changes could have on students and families.
- Ensure equity and transparency in our decision-making process.
- Identify opportunities for how repurposed buildings might still serve community needs.
- Build trust and collaboration through inclusive engagement.
Please note, decisions regarding the future of individual buildings have not been made at this time. Your input will help us understand what is important to the community before making any recommendations.
Who Should Participate?
We are welcoming feedback from:
- Current staff members working within our schools.
- Parents and guardians of students currently enrolled.
- Community members who may not have children in the schools but are invested in the future of our neighborhoods and educational spaces.
- Business owners as the economic drivers in our community.
