Westminster High School is proud to welcome Maureen Bangsund as its new principal, bringing a fresh perspective shaped by resilience, passion, and strong community values. For Bangsund, this role is more than a job, it’s a dream come true. Before entering the world of education, she had an unexpected career as a professional fighter in boxing, kickboxing, MMA, and Muay Thai. She says the focus, discipline, and leadership she learned in the ring now guide her work in schools.
Born in Colorado and graduate of Arvada West High School, Bangsund finished high school at just 16 years old. Although she once disliked school, she always loved learning and believed in working hard to reach her goals. Over the years, she built a career in massage therapy and education, eventually moving into school leadership.
As principal, Bangsund values strong relationships and open communication. “I want to know every face and every name,” she says. Her goal is to help students and staff feel seen, heard, and supported. She encourages students to challenge themselves, get involved, and push through discomfort in order to grow. With her unique background and inspiring vision, Maureen Bangsund is ready to lead Westminster High School into a bold new chapter.
